Evidence for an increased release of proteolytic activity by the eutopic endometrial tissue in women with endometriosis and for involvement of matrix metalloproteinase-9
This study found that eutopic endometrial tissue from women with endometriosis exhibits increased proteolytic activity, specifically elevated matrix metalloproteinase-9 secretion and an imbalance with its inhibitor TIMP-1, compared to women without endometriosis.
