Investigation of the Therapeutic Effect of Salbutamol on Endometriosis in a Mouse Model
Salbutamol treatment significantly reduced endometriotic lesion size and number in mice by decreasing inflammatory cells, angiogenesis, fibrosis, and neurogenesis while increasing apoptosis.

The study investigated whether salbutamol, a β2-adrenergic receptor agonist, has therapeutic effects in a mouse model of endometriosis, using multiple doses over 3 weeks. Endometrial lesions were assessed by pathology and histology (including lesion number/size, Masson staining, and toluidine blue) and by immunohistochemistry for markers related to inflammation, angiogenesis, fibrosis, apoptosis, and neurogenesis. Salbutamol significantly reduced the number and size of endometriotic lesions and decreased mast cells and macrophages in lesions, alongside reduced expression of IL-1β, TNF-α, PDGFB, CD31, TGF-β, BCL2, TUBB3, substance P, and NGF. The paper’s main limitation is that it reports preclinical findings in mice without detailing translation to human disease. This paper is centrally about endometriosis—testing salbutamol’s therapeutic effects on endometriotic lesions and related immune, angiogenic, fibrotic, apoptotic, and neurogenic markers in a mouse model.
