Abstract

Bakgrund: Endometrios är en kronisk, gynekologisk sjukdom som påverkar flera aspekter av livet. Trots att 10 % av kvinnor i reproduktiv ålder har sjukdomen är den relativt okänd. Många sjuksköterskor har otillräcklig kunskap om dess följder, vilket minskar möjligheten att tillgodose kvinnornas behov. Syfte: Syftet var att beskriva kvinnors upplevelser av att leva med endometrios. Metod: Studiens 21 deltagare valdes ut genom Endometriosföreningen Sverige. Via mejl besvarade deltagarna ett frågeformulär där de ombads att berätta om sina upplevelser av att leva med endometrios. Berättelserna analyserades induktivt med kvalitativ innehållsanalys. Resultat: Två kategorier och tio underkategorier identifierades. Kategorin Att genomgå svårigheter utgörs av att leva med svår smärta, ha svårt att hitta fungerande behandling, inte känna sig tagen på allvar av sjukvården, känna rädsla, längta efter barn samt känna sig begränsad i socialt liv, familjeliv och partnerrelation. Kategorin Att se möjligheter innefattar att känna lättnad, ha sätt att hantera sjukdomen och få insikt om sig själv. Slutsatser: Relationer och vardagslivet begränsas. Rädsla för framtiden förekommer och infertilitet kan vara en stor sorg. Sjukvården upplevs vara okunnig och ge otillräcklig information. Stödjande närstående, förstående sjukvårdspersonal och innehavande av sätt att hantera sjukdomen underlättar livssituationen.
