Effect of DMPA on IL-1 Alpha in Serum of Women with Endometrioma
This study found no significant difference in serum IL-1α levels between women with endometrioma treated with DMPA post-surgery versus surgery alone, though DMPA did reduce pain scores at 12 weeks.

This randomized clinical trial studied 35 women with endometrioma undergoing conservative surgery, assigning participants to surgery plus postoperative DMPA 150 mg intramuscular or surgery alone. Serum IL-1α levels were measured by ELISA, and pain was assessed using visual analog scale scores at 2 and 12 weeks after the operation. IL-1α serum levels did not differ significantly between groups at either time point, nor did pre- versus postoperative IL-1α change within groups. Pain scores decreased significantly in both groups after surgery, with significantly less pain at 12 weeks in the DMPA group. This paper is centrally about endometriosis—specifically endometrioma and the effect of DMPA on IL-1α and postoperative pain.
