This review examines the role of the gut microbiome in the pathogenesis of endometriosis, highlighting how dysbiosis influences systemic inflammation, immune surveillance, and estrogen metabolism through the estrobolome. The authors detail mechanisms such as altered short-chain fatty acid production, disrupted intestinal barrier integrity, and shifts in T-cell balance that contribute to the chronic inflammatory state characteristic of the disease. Potential therapeutic strategies discussed include dietary modifications, probiotics, and personalized microbiome profiling aimed at restoring hormonal and immune homeostasis. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — specifically exploring the mechanistic links between gut microbiota composition and disease progression to identify novel treatment targets.
